Sunderland Women put on a brilliant display to beat Coventry United on the road in the Barclays Women’s Championship.
A four-goal haul from Emily Scarr and a goal from Jessica Brown capped off an exceptional performance.
The Lasses took the lead two minutes in as Scarr met a free kick, tapping her shot past Mia Smith.
Mel Reay was forced into an early change as Brianna Westrup picked up an injury, with Abbey Joice replacing the centre back.
Scarr doubled her tally in the 15th minute, with the striker running through the middle and firing a long-ranged strike into the bottom corner.
The Lasses were relentless in their pressing in the first half, almost reaping the rewards as Dodds picked up a loose pass and getting a shot away, but the ‘keeper managed to save it.
The 43rd minute saw Scarr complete her first-half hat-trick, planting her shot into the bottom corner again, rounding off a superb half.
The momentum continued after the interval as Joice slipped a pass through the legs of the defender to J. Brown, who converted the fourth of the afternoon.
It was chance after chance for much of the half, with Dodds, J. Brown and Scarr all with opportunities, but to no avail just yet.
Scarr rounded off a star performance with her fourth, collecting a rebound off the bar to smash her shot into the back of the net.
The Lasses’ last league game of the calendar year ended in style, with three cup games remaining. Leicester are first up as the Lasses host the Foxes at Eppleton on Thursday evening.
