SAFC Women 0-4 Birmingham City Women

Sunderland Women suffered a tough defeat at the Stadium of Light against Birmingham City Women on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Harriet Scott, Siobhan Wilson, Ashley Hodson and Jamie Finn secured the three points for the visitors, in the second part of the day’s Wearside double header.

Chances were few and far between in the first half for both sides, with the visitors having the first opportunity four minutes in, but Claudia Moan held the shot.

Nicki Gears had a penalty shout waved away 19 minutes in as she drove into the box and looked to be brought down, with nothing given.

Birmingham scored through Harriet Scott to give the away side a lead going into half time.

The Lasses had a chance early in the first half through a shot from range, but the goalkeeper read it well and caught the effort.

Shortly after, Emily Scarr burst into the box from the right wing and got a right-footed shot away, but the ‘keeper made another save to deny a goal.

Wilson fired the second goal into the right corner, and minutes later, Hodson tapped home a rebounded shot to make it three.

Finn made it four after the ball went all the way through to the back post, and the Birmingham player was there to touch it home.

The Lasses’ next fixture is in two weeks’ time as they take on Sheffield United at home.
