Charlton Athletic Women 0-1 SAFC Ladies

The Lasses came home with three points as they beat Charlton Athletic Women at The Oakwood.

Grace McCatty scored the only goal of the game as the Lasses moved up to fifth in the Women’s Championship.

Mel Reay's had an early chance in the fifth minute as Neve Herron drove down the left wing, finding Abbey Joice with a square pass, but Joice dragged her shot wide.

Emma Kelly got on the end of a free kick from Charlotte Potts, but her header was straight at the Charlton goalkeeper.

Alison Cowling was forced into a good save after the wind caught a Charlton corner, and the goalkeeper tipped the ball around the post.

McCatty opened the scoring in the 32nd minute after Neve Herron’s shot was blocked, and the defender fired in the rebound.

The Lasses almost doubled their lead in the second half after Herron’s shot looked to be heading in, only for Charlton to clear it off the line.

Charlton piled the pressure on the Sunderland defence during the second half, but the Lasses stood strong to deny any clear opportunities.

After a solid performance, the Lasses now have a short time to prepare for their midweek Continental Cup game against Blackburn Rovers Women.
