Ladies Report: Defeat in Conti Cup

Sunderland AFC Ladies 0-7 Aston Villa Women

The Lasses suffered a heavy defeat in the Continental Cup against Aston Villa Women at Eppleton CW.

First half goals from Laura Brown, Ramona Petzelberger and Remi Allen meant the Lasses were 3-0 down at half time.

After a half-time pitch inspection was given the all-clear, two goals from Alisha Lehmann, a second from Allen and a goal from Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah ended a tough game.

Villa scored in the first minute and 10 minutes later through Brown and Petzelberger to give the away side an early 2-0 lead.

The Lasses did weather the early storm and Abbey Joice had a chance to grab a goal back, pressing the full back well and stealing the ball before firing a shot over the bar.

Villa’s Allen scored the third goal a few minutes before the break.

Chances for both sides came early in the second half, with Neve Herron denying Lehmann with a header off the line, and Holly Manders did well to create space for herself before her shot sailed just over the bar.

A positive spark being Daisy Burt's debut from the bench with six minutes to play on the day, the away side did however finish strongly, scoring four goals in the last 20 minutes as the game finished 7-0.
