Talking Points: Dodds on Saints trip

Sunderland are back on the road this weekend when they travel to St Mary’s to take on promotion-chasing Southampton.

Mike Dodds spoke ahead of the fixture...

On Tuesday’s defeat...

“I think the group are in a good - it's not lost on them either that we've lost five and we have to address that.

“On the flip side, we've got to look at a lot of positives and not just for 45 minutes, I think for maybe 60 minutes when I watched the game back there was a spell in the first half that I thought we were better than I thought we were.

“We have got to take the positives from the other night and have the same mindset and approach for the game this weekend.”

On Southampton...

“I think Russell Martin has got a real clear identity in terms of the way he wants to play, and he's had that at all the clubs he has been at, and I've got huge respect for him.

“He won't change or waiver from his beliefs, so we know what we're going to come up against.

“I think the difficulty you have in the game is there's so much individual quality, so you set your teams up to play however you feel is best and nullify that.”

Dodds on his squad...

“I've got full belief in the group; I feel we are one win away from results flipping on its head.

“This league is proven to be tough but listen we've got to dig in and we've got to stick together and I'm seeing a lot of positives from the group.

“I'm also taking a level of comfort that the players are working, listening to the messages and are on board with what we are trying to do.

“I go back to Tuesday night, and I thought we were excellent against the best team in the league.

“I do genuinely feel like they are giving me absolutely everything at the moment and it's fine margins that are going against us and I'm 100% positive that will turn at some point.”
