Press conference: Mike Dodds looks ahead to Millwall clash

Sunderland AFC welcome Millwall FC to the Stadium of Light in their penultimate Sky Bet Championship home match of the season.

Mike Dodds will be looking to stretch the Black Cats’ unbeaten run to four matches following last weekend’s away victory over West Bromwich Albion.

On the team's recent form...

I think the last two games have highlighted our progress out of possession, which I've been really pleased with.

I think my disappointment with the last two games is when we got the ball into positive areas of the pitch, I thought we didn't execute as well as we could.

I think in those types of games, when you come up against two of the stronger teams in terms of league position, you can't turn down those opportunities.

I don't want to overemphasise the in-possession stuff because I felt against Bristol City, particularly the first half, I thought we were outstanding, and I felt the game should have been out of sight.

Dodds on Millwall...

“Neil Harris has done extremely well in terms of getting the absolute maximum amount out of what he's got at his disposal.

“They are really well organised in particular out of possession and they are a real threat on transition. A lot of their goals, since Neil has come in, are via transitions and as always, they are a threat from set pieces.

“He has got a really well-organised team which gives you a really strong foundation in the games and he's got two real obvious threats in terms of set pieces and transitions, so results are picked up for them.

“It's going to be a really difficult game and we are going to have to make sure we manage all those bits in particular out of possession.”

On Trai Hume...

“Trai is a real positive when you talk about the recruitment of this football club and for me, he's one of the best if not the best fullback in the league and the fact that he can keep churning out games and minutes says everything about his mentality.

“He is going to need a good summer break. He is one that we are mindful of internally in terms of managing him.”
