As the June international break comes to a close, we take a look at how our three international players have fared with their respective nations…
Bailey Wright – Australia: Bailey Wright enjoyed a sensational time away with Australia, as the Socceroos secured qualification for their fifth straight World Cup finals with a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Peru in Qatar. A 2-1 win over United Arab Emirates set up the tie with the Peruvians as a final hurdle, going through on penalties after a gritty goalless draw. Prior to that, the defender would score a bullet header in the side’s warm-up friendly win over Jordan. Wright will now be hoping to seal a spot in Graham Arnold’s final squad this winter.
Trai Hume – Northern Ireland: Trai Hume secured another senior cap for Northern Ireland in the first of four UEFA Nations League clashes, a slender 1-0 defeat by Greece in Belfast. Ian Baraclough’s side would follow this up with two draws against Cyprus, either side of a 3-2 defeat to Kosovo.
Ross Stewart – Scotland: Ross Stewart made his eagerly anticipated Scotland debut last Wednesday, entering the field for the last four minutes as Steve Clarke’s side beat Armenia 2-0 at Hampden Park. This result proved welcome respite after falling to Ukraine in their quest for the World Cup finals, before the Ukrainians were themselves edged out by Wales for the solitary spot. Stewart then got more playing time with 32 minutes in the Tartan Army’s loss to Republic of Ireland in Dublin, before watching on from the bench as the side dispatched Armenia once again, 4-1 in Yerevan.
