Injury news:
Batth to miss of Boxing Day fixture

Tony Mowbray has provided an injury update on Elliot Embleton and Danny Batth ahead of Sunderland’s Boxing Day fixture.

The duo picked up injuries during last week’s draw at Hull City, and in today’s pre-match press conference, the Head Coach delivered the latest.

“Elliot is having his operation today to re-position the bone,” Mowbray said.

“When players pick up bad injuries there’s emotion for them, but they have to come to terms with it.

“His first obstacle is the operation and his rehabilitation will start soon.

“We’re hopeful we’ll see him return before the end of the season, but every player reacts differently.”

Batth limped off in the first half at the MKM Stadium, and will miss Monday’s fixture against Blackburn Rovers.

Mowbray continued: “I think Danny will be out for two to three weeks – it’s not a bad injury, but he’ll miss Monday .

“He’ll be chomping at the bit and might even travel with us to the North West.

“He just needs to strengthen his calf back up and get back on the grass.”
