Loan Departure: Hawkes joins Tranmere Rovers

Sunderland AFC youngster Josh Hawkes has completed a loan move to Tranmere Rovers, following FA and EFL approval.

The former Hartlepool United forward moves to Prenton Park until the end of the 2021-22 season, joining Micky Mellon’s side for their Sky Bet League Two campaign.

Hawkes scored 13 goals and registered three assists in 20 Premier League 2 games during the 2020-21 season, with his first senior goal coming last month in the club’s Carabao Cup win at Port Vale.

Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman said: “This is a great opportunity for Josh in League Two and it demonstrates his progress to date. This is the natural next step for him after Under-23 football, and we will monitor his development very closely.”

All at SAFC would like to wish Josh the best of luck during his loan spell at Prenton Park.
