New Contract: Taylor signs first professional terms

Ellis Taylor has put pen to paper on his first professional contract at the club, signing a three-year deal at the Stadium of Light.

The left-sided player has committed his future to Sunderland AFC after completing his scholarship, scoring four goals in eight matches for the Black Cats’ Under-18s.

Taylor also made 17 appearances and scored one goal for the Under-23s during the 2020-21 season, capping an impressive campaign within the club’s youth set-up.

After signing up, Taylor said; “It’s a huge moment to sign my first professional contract, especially having been here for so many years. I’ve been at Sunderland since I was nine years old, so it’s really special and tops off what I feel has been a really good season for me. Elliott [Dickman] and Proc [Michael Proctor] have shown a lot of faith in me and I’d really like to thank them for the opportunity. Now, I want to keep learning and keep developing.”

Kristjaan Speakman added: “Ellis has a really bright future and we are delighted to have agreed a long-term contract with him. He’s a local boy who’s been at the club for nearly 10 years and he represents what we are trying to achieve.”
