Team news: Hume in contention for Ipswich

Lee Johnson has provided the latest injury update ahead of Saturday’s trip to Ipswich Town in Sky Bet League One.

Sunderland head to Portman Road looking to make it seven unbeaten in the league, off the back of last week’s 2-1 win over fellow promotion hopefuls Plymouth Argyle.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the Head Coach delivered the latest team news.

"The good news is that Denver is not a million miles away,” Johnson said.

“He’s had three or four days of full training, he’s moving well, and he has looked confident and comfortable with his ankle.

“I expect him to come in sooner rather than later.”

Johnson continued: "A couple of the players are back in training tentatively, in Corry Evans and Dennis Cirkin, but I wouldn't say they are in contention this weekend.

"Corry keeps feeling a problem on his quad every time his leg contracts to extreme levels, so he's still a few days off the pace.

"Dennis is doing really well but it's an ongoing conversation on his return - when he is good to go, he'll be back pretty quickly.

"He just needs to cope with striking a ball full-tilt and he's getting up to that. I'd say he is probably 90 percent of the way there."

Johnson also provided news on Lynden Gooch, who was replaced at half time during Saturday’s win.

"He's positive about it, although we haven't actually seen him out on the grass yet because we wanted to give him as much healing time as possible before giving him a fitness test.

"That fitness test will probably happen on Friday and we will plan for the game with him, and without him.”
