Team news:
Watmore and Grigg to miss Tranmere away

Phil Parkinson has revealed Duncan Watmore and Will Grigg will miss Wednesday’s trip to Tranmere Rovers.

Watmore picked up a knock during his substitute appearance in Friday’s goalless draw at the Stadium of Light to Doncaster Rovers.

Northern Ireland striker Grigg, meanwhile, has been absent from training over the last few days with a virus.

And speaking to the media at Monday’s press conference, the Sunderland boss confirmed the pair will miss the Lads’ midweek trip to Prenton Park.

“Duncan unfortunately picked up an injury when he came on during Friday’s game,” he said.

“It’s nothing serious but Wednesday will probably come too soon for him.

“Griggy has been ill with a virus. We have kept him away from the training ground because we don’t want that to spread.”

He continued: “Kyle picked up a dead leg during Friday’s game and missed the practice match we had on Saturday.

“He has since joined back in on training and done well so should be ok for Wednesday night.

“We have players who are waiting for the opportunity to stake their claim once again so it’s good to have those options.”
