The Northern Ireland international has played a key role on the left side of the Black Cats' defensive three in recent games, helping them to achieve successive clean sheets following defeat at Portsmouth.
Sunderland have now suffered just one loss in their last 12 games, a run that's put them back into the promotion mix as the business end of the season nears.
