George Dobson:
"We should be expected to win games"

George Dobson is targeting nothing less than a win and three points tonight.

Sunderland will begin their Leasing.com Trophy venture this evening at the Stadium of Light, kick-off 7:45pm, against Grimsby Town.

Frustrated after Saturday’s defeat to Lincoln City, the Black Cats have the chance to get back to winning ways as they look to go one step further in this season’s cup competition and win it.

Finalists just seven months ago, Jack Ross’ side know the value a cup run can bring having already defeated Premier League sides Burnley and Sheffield United on route to the last 16 of the Carabao Cup.

And with Dobson playing a starring role in both those games, the midfielder has admitted the game offers the chance to build some momentum once more.

“You want to go into every game to win so the game tonight is another opportunity to start another winning run,” he said.

“Even though it’s not the competition highest on the list of our priorities, it’s a game we can win and progress in the competition.

“Like what we have done in the League Cup, we can take the momentum into the league.

“It’s a game of football at the end of day,” he continued.

“We are Sunderland Football Club and we should be expected to win games.

“We can’t just turn up and expect to win games.

“We have got to do all the basics of working hard for the first and second balls and doing the standard things that you need to do.

“Then you can look to get your match-winners involved and they can really make a difference.”
