Chris Maguire knows Sunderland can't afford to take anything for granted in the second leg of their Play-Off semi-final at Portsmouth on Thursday.
The 30-year-old proved to be an inspired second-half change for Jack Ross' side, brilliantly thumping home a volley from 18-yards to hand the Lads a precious 1-0 advantage going into the reserve fixture at Fratton Park.
With the tie very much still in the balance as to who will reach the Wembley final against either Charlton Athletic or Doncaster Rovers, Maguire echoed the need to remain firmly grounded and focused if the Lads are to get the job done.
“It was a great feeling to get the goal on Saturday because that’s why you work hard to get back,” he said.
“You want moments like that. It was a big game and we needed to get the win – we got that but we’re only halfway there.
“It was vital for us to take the advantage to Fratton Park. We have got the confidence and belief to keep going but we know we have to put in a big performance.
“We have shown we can handle it," he continued.
“They’ve beaten us once in the league when we had 10 men. We had 10 men again on Saturday and we managed to come out on top.
“We know we can beat anybody on our given day and we are confident of that.”
