Jordan Willis has revealed the lure of playing for a club of Sunderland’s stature was what convinced him to sign on the dotted line.
The in-demand defender, who was linked with a number of moves to the Sky Bet Championship, has put pen to paper today on a two-year deal at the Stadium of Light.
Just 24, Willis has played over 200 first-team games for Coventry City and after leaving on a free in the summer has now followed Lee Burge north to sign for the Black Cats.
Speaking to safc.com after the completion of his move, making him the club’s third signing of the summer, he shared his excitement to get going on Wearside.
“I’m buzzing to have signed for a club of this stature,” he said.
“To get the chance to play in front of 40,000 fans every week is what I’ve dreamt of.
“I spoke to Lee (Burge) before I signed and asked him a few questions. He filled me with great confidence because leaving Coventry was a tough decision.
“I’ve got a lot of great memories there but I’m happy have signed for such a big club here.”
He continued: "I was linked with a few Championship clubs over the summer but when a club the size of Sunderland inquiries about you, you are always going to listen. I think I just wanted to be part of the journey to help get them back to where we deserve to be."
