McGeady pens contract extension

Sunderland AFC are delighted to announce that Aiden McGeady has signed a one-year contract extension at the Stadium of Light.

The new deal will see the Lads’ 2018-19 Player of the Year remain on Wearside until the end of the 2020-21 season.

McGeady enjoyed a stunning campaign last time out, scoring 14 goals and contributing a further six assists, while also being named as the League One Player of the Month for February.

Capped 93 times by the Republic of Ireland, the winger moved to the Stadium of Light in July 2017 and has made over 65 appearances in red and white.

Speaking about his new deal, McGeady said: “I’m delighted to have extended my contract at the Stadium of Light, and I’m looking forward to the new season. I’m enjoying my football and, like everyone else associated with the club, I’m confident that we can achieve promotion during the upcoming campaign.”

SAFC’s manager, Jack Ross, added: “Aiden was an important player for us last season, and he has a real desire to bring success to the football club. His quality on the pitch speaks for itself, but he also brings a wealth of experience to the dressing room. He enjoys playing for Sunderland, and I’m delighted that he has committed his future to the club.”
