Team news:
Gooch back in contention

Lynden Gooch is back in training and in contention to return to Sunderland’s matchday squad on Saturday.

The American has been out since the Black Cats’ 5-0 win over Tranmere Rovers in October with an ankle injury.

However, now back fit the 23-year-old will hope to make an instant return to the matchday squad after coming through the last few training sessions unscathed.

Speaking at today’s press conference, boss Phil Parkinson provided a full fitness update from the camp.

“Jordan Willis opened his knee up slightly in training, so we are going to have to monitor that slightly,” he said.

“Dylan McGeouch has still got a problem with his calf. He came back into training earlier in the week but had an issue so it will probably be next week before we see him on the training pitch.

He continued: “Lynden Gooch has trained the full week which is great to see him back out there.”

Parkinson also provided an update on the future of Aiden McGeady.

“We have spoken to Aiden about January and moving on, and we feel it is fair to him to tell him now to give him the opportunity to sort something out.

“It is a big decision but not one we have taken lightly. We have given it a lot of thought and I am confident it is the right decision for the club.
