Charlie Wyke ensured it was a goalscoring return to the side this evening as he helped book Sunderland’s place in round two of the Carabao Cup.

The striker came off the bench in the second 45 and netted a 90th minute close-effort after Aiden McGeady had restored the Black Cats’ advantage.

Marc McNulty had initially given the Lads the lead at the Wham Stadium, but Accrington levelled on the hour mark from the penalty spot.
