Jack Ross was full of praise for his players after they secured their place in round two of the Carabao Cup this evening. 

Marc McNulty scored his first goal for Sunderland following a sweeping move which carved open Accrington Stanley in the first period.

Accy levelled on the hour mark from the penalty spot but inspired changes shortly after saw Aiden McGeady and Charlie Wyke come off the bench to send the Black Cats through.

McGeady lashed home a fine right-footed effort from the edge of the before Wyke sealed the win in the final minutes to book the Lads’ place in round two.
