Match preview:
Sunderland v Rochdale

Sunderland are back on home turf this Saturday as Rochdale travel to the Stadium of Light (KO 3pm).

The Lads return to Wearside seeking a return to winning ways, as they aim to bounce back from their first defeat of the league season last time out.

Chris Maguire scored of the goals of the season so far at the Pirelli stadium, but it wasn’t enough as Burton Albion claimed a 2-1 victory.

Jack Ross’ side remain unbeaten at the SoL, though, and with another mammoth backing expected, they’ll be confident of extending that run of form.

Over 26,000 tickets have already been sold, but it’s not too late to secure your seat.

Rochdale, meanwhile, arrive on Wearside with the wind in their sails.

Keith Hill’s men secured an empathic 3-0 win over Gillingham last time out – their third victory in four unbeaten games – and three points this weekend would take them to within one point of the Lads.

But while scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for the Dale, keeping them out has, with the Spotland side conceding 16 goals to their 13 scored.

Unfortunately, one man they won’t have to worry about stopping is Charlie Wyke, with Ross confirming the striker will miss up to 12 weeks due to a knee injury.

The 25-year-old, who missed the start of the season with a similar problem, suffered the blow after colliding with Brewers stopper Dimitar Evtimov.

Josh Maja missed training on Thursday due to a knock, but Ross expects him to train on Friday, while Dylan McGeouch has returned to training and is available for selection.

Rochdale, meanwhile, have no fresh injury concerns.

Goalkeeper Josh Lillis returned to the starting XI last weekend, while midfielder Jordan Williams appeared as a late substitute after recovering from a knee injury.
