Sunderland welcome Wycombe Wanderers to the Stadium of Light this Saturday (KO 3PM), bidding to collect their ninth straight win in all competitions.
Having had to revert their attention away from their Sky Bet League One venture over the last week, Jack Ross’ side ensured their winning run continued as they advanced in the Emirates FA Cup and the Checkatrade Trophy.
Dispatching Port Vale in round one of the Emirates FA Cup, Ross then named a much-changed side for Tuesday’s trip to Morecambe.
But the outcome remained the same as Josh Maja turned home his 10th goal of the season deep into stoppage-time to secure a 1-0 win at the Globe Arena, after George Honeyman and Lynden Gooch had done the business at Vale last Sundya.
Facing their first home game since the end of October when the Lads saw off Southend United, Ross’ Sunderland will be looking to extend their winning streak in the league to six matches.
Having collected four straight clean sheets in the league as well, the Black Cats are playing with their tails up following just one defeat in 18 in all competitions.
For Saturday’s visit of Wycombe, Ross will remain without Lee Cattermole who has been out since before the trip to Plymouth Argyle at the start of the month.
Ethan Robson and Denver Hume remain out along with long-term absentees Duncan Watmore and Charlie Wyke.
Wycombe, on the other hand, will welcome Matt Ingram into their ranks following injuries to Ryan Allsop and Yves Ma-Kalambay. The stopper has joined on an emergency seven-day loan from Queens Park Rangers and will head straight into action at the Stadium of Light this Saturday.
Currently 15th in the league, Wycombe have endured a difficult run of late – winning just one of their last four matches in all competitions.
That said, in terms of league form the Chairboys have collected nine points from a possible 12 as they look to haul themselves up the league following promotion from Sky Bet League Two last term.
As for previous meetings, this will be the first ever been the two sides.
