Stars and Stripes: Gooch named in USA squad

Lynden Gooch has been selected for USA’s upcoming international friendly against Bolivia.

Interim manager Dave Sarachan announced the 22-man squad, which has an average age of 22, on Sunday, with Gooch making a return to the fold.

The Sunderland forward made his debut in October 2016, coming off the bench in 1-1 draw with New Zealand at the RFK Stadium, Washington D.C.

USA will host Bolivia on Memorial Day at the Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pennsylvania, home of MLS outfit Philadelphia Union.

The Stars and Stripes will then head to Europe to face France and Republic of Ireland, but ‘numerous’ changes to the squad are expected ahead of those fixtures.

Gooch will be hoping to impress and retain his place, with USA the opposition in John O’Shea’s final international outing on 2 June.
