Managerial vacancy: Donald hoping for swift appointment

Stewart Donald is aiming to appoint Sunderland AFC’s new manager within the next seven days.

On Monday, the club’s new owner spoke with the local and national media to outline his long-term vision for the Black Cats, as well as his immediate plans.

Donald revealed that 'notional conversations' have taken place, but admitted that until the sale was finalised, they were unable to move any further.

However, he’s hoping to bring a swift conclusion to the club's search for a new manager.

“Very soon, I hope,” said Donald when asked about a timescale regarding the appointment.

“We’re obviously going to start looking through that process and I would think probably seven days maximum before we’ve got a new manager.”

He added: “Obviously, we have to move because we need the manager to have as much of the summer as possible to assemble the squad that he wants, and assess what he’s got.

“I would be very surprised if by the weekend we’re not able to sort of tell you who that will be.”
