View from the opposition: Parkinson on Sunderland clash

Phil Parkinson has issued a rallying call to the Bolton Wanderers supporters ahead of Sunderland’s visit to the Macron Stadium.

The Lancashire-based side sit four points ahead of the Black Cats in 20th, but they are without a win in their last three Sky Bet Championship outings and back-to-back defeats have slowed their ascendancy.

Sunderland, meanwhile, have failed to pick up maximum points since a 1-0 win over Hull City one month ago, with Chris Coleman’s side seeking a return to winning ways after falling to Brentford on Saturday.

And speaking ahead of the Macron clash, the Bolton boss admitted his side need the fans on their side.

“There’s three points at stake and that’s the most important thing,” said Parkinson.

“Both us and Sunderland got beat, so we’re in the same positions more or less.”

He continued: “All we can do is concentrate on the process and hopefully the outcome will take care of itself.

“We’ve got injuries and suspensions now, and a few other bumps and bruises inside the dressing room, so it’s going to be an interesting team selection as we go into Tuesday night.

“We’re going to need Macron Stadium absolutely bouncing and behind us because these lads need a lift.

“They’re looking forward to the game already, but we’ve got to think carefully now about our team selection and assessing everybody in the next 48 hours.”
