Team news: Grabban and O'Shea to miss Hull trip

Simon Grayson has revealed Lamine Kone and Aiden McGeady are in contention for Saturday’s trip to Hull City.

But striker Lewis Grabban and skipper John O’Shea will miss the encounter at the KCOM.

Grabban was forced off with a hamstring injury in Tuesday’s night’s defeat to Nottingham Forest while John O’Shea didn’t feature after playing the second 45 against Sheffield United last weekend.

Kone and McGeady, meanwhile, also missed the midweek defeat to Forest but are expected to return to training today.

Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday’s trip to Hull City, Grayson provided the latest team news ahead of Sunderland's latest Sky Bet Championship match.

“Lewis will miss the game through his hamstring,” he said.

“We're just waiting for the scan to see the severity of it. The results are coming back this morning, but he'll miss the game.

“Anybody who comes off with a hamstring will be out for a period of time. It's very rare that a player will come off like that and only be out for a week or so.

“You might be talking a few weeks, but I don't know because I've not had the scan results yet. Let's hope it isn't too severe, but it's something that's probably not going to be just a few days, that's for sure.”

He continued: “O'Shea will miss it (the Hull game) because he picked up a calf injury against Sheffield United which he had with Ireland previously. He's nothing long term though.

“We're waiting on McGeady and Kone to see how they are today. They haven't trained with us yet, but they have been out doing work with the physios so we're waiting to see where we go with them.”
