Simon Grayson is hopeful the extent of Lewis Grabban’s injury won’t keep him out for too long.
The striker, who has scored three goals for Sunderland since his season-long loan switch from AFC Bournemouth, saw his evening cut short last night when he limped off with a hamstring injury after 36 minutes.
With the match locked at 0-0, James Vaughan, 29, was handed the task of leading the line for the lads as they continued to lay siege to Nottingham Forest’s goal.
But while frustration mounted in Sunderland’s final third, Daryl Murphy provided an ice cool finish at the other end as Forest somehow stole three points at the Stadium of Light.
Speaking post-match, Grayson admitted he couldn’t provide too much of an update on Grabban but is hopeful Sunderland’s leading scorer won’t be out for too long.
“I think he just tweaked his hamstring so I don’t know the severity of it until probably later, hopefully it is not too long,” he said.
“Of course, it would be a blow because he is a good player, we are a little bit short in those numbers.
“We have Aiden McGeady to come back, Duncan Watmore coming back, we still have options.
“Both Lamine and Aiden set off training yesterday but both as a precaution both pulled out."Both are not a million miles away. Let’s be hopeful.”
