Eradicate mistakes: Grabban rues costly errors

Lewis Grabban admits Sunderland must eradicate mistakes if they’re to start winning games.

The Black Cats picked up a point on Saturday but it should have been three as sloppy errors cost them dear and Millwall battled to a draw at the Stadium of Light.

Grabban opened the scoring with his ninth strike in 13 league games, with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Léo Bonatini the only player to score more in the Sky Bet Championship.

But the 29-year-old striker admits the Lads have to be better at the back if they’re to be rewarded for their attacking intent, starting at Villa Park on Tuesday night.

“I’m happy with it [nine goals so far] but obviously the feeling now is disappointment after not getting the win,” said Grabban post-match.

“Games come quick and that’s the good thing about the Championship, so hopefully we can fix what happened on Saturday and get a win on Tuesday at Aston Villa.”

He continued: “It seemed like the same old story was happening but in the second-half we got back into the game and in the end we should have won.

“I had a disallowed goal which I think should of stood and a penalty shout, so I think we were unlucky but we still have to make improvements.

“[Mistakes] lead to disappointment week in week out so we have to eradicate them, and then we’ll be winning and start to move up the table.”
