Team news: Coleman selects his first XI

Chris Coleman has named his first starting XI as Sunderland manager as his side take on Aston Villa.

Ty Browning replaces the injured Marc Wilson in central defence while George Honeyman and Lynden Gooch also come into the frame, as Jonny Williams (shoulder) and Duncan Watmore (knee) miss out.

Darron Gibson comes in for the suspended Lee Cattermole and Callum McManaman also features as Paddy McNair doesn’t make the trip to Villa Park, with Didier Ndong also not included in the matchday squad.

Coleman is without a total of eight first-team players with Billy Jones and Lamine Kone also unavailable for selection, meaning the likes of Donald Love, Tom Beadling, Ethan Robson and Joel Asoro are named on a young bench.

Sunderland: Ruiter, Matthews, Browning, O’Shea, Oviedo, Gibson, Honeyman, McManaman, McGeady, Gooch, Grabban.
Subs: Steele, Love, Galloway, Vaughan, Asoro, Robson, Beadling.
