Match preview:
Sunderland v Swansea City

Sunderland face Swansea City on Saturday in their final home game of the 2016-17 Premier League season.

The game will see Premier League football leave the Stadium of Light following a decade, with the Black Cats already planning for a successful campaign in the Championship following relegation to the second tier.

But for Swansea City, it would well be the decisive day in their fight for survival.

Sunderland’s 2-0 win over Hull City last weekend handed the Welsh side the initiative and they took full advantage, with Fernando Llorente’s strike clinching a massive win over Everton as the Swans moved out of the bottom three at the Tigers' expense.

With just two top-flight games to play, Paul Clement’s side hold a slender one-point advantage over Hull who could enter their Super Sunday clash with Crystal Palace needing to win due to Swansea’s superior goal difference.

Clement, though, will be aware of the threat posed by David Moyes’ side who refused to roll over and accept defeat at the KCOM Stadium last weekend.

The trip to Humberside saw an element of pride restored as Jermain Defoe returned to the scoresheet, and the England international has long been a thorn in Swansea’s side having scored five goals in his last four games against the Welsh side.

And Sunderland will be keen to build further momentum heading into an important summer, with all gears focussed towards ensuring the Black Cats hit the ground running when competitive football returns in August.

With regards to team news this weekend, Bryan Oviedo, Darron Gibson and Lee Cattermole have returned to training, but George Honeyman will miss out due to a back injury.

Meanwhile, Wayne Routledge and Angel Rangel have both returned to training and are in contention, with Clement having no fresh injury concerns.

Jefferson Montero and Nathan Dyer remain sidelined.
