Manager's preview: Moyes on Chelsea

Sunderland can draw inspiration from Chelsea’s title-winning success, according to David Moyes.

Antonio Conte’s side have taken the Premier League by storm to clinch their second title in three years, but the Black Cats find themselves at the opposite end, planning for life in the second tier.

A disappointing season ensured club’s ten-year stay in the top-flight will come to an end on Sunday at Stamford Bridge, but last time the Lads dropped out of the Premier League they roared back to the top tier as champions.

And Moyes believes the Black Cats can learn from the Blues success as they plot a return to the Premier League.

"We hope we're back very quickly and seeing what it's like to be champions, to be winners again, could help influence the players.

“We've got a lot of players with Premier League experience but maybe some of the young players will see what it's like, and hopefully those will be times we can have in the future.”

He continued: “There'll be a lot of turnover in the squad and I want to have players who are robust, good characters, and willing to go out there and win.

“I don't think [our target] can be anything else [than winning the Championship].

“Sunderland carry a lot of expectations and arguably could be the biggest club in the Championship next year.

“We need to make sure we keep the core and find a way of adding to it."
