Republic of Ireland international John O’Shea has agreed a new one-year deal at the Stadium of Light.
The captain moved to Wearside in 2011 and during a six-year spell became the club’s leading appearance maker in the Premier League, a competition he won on five occasions during his time at Manchester United.
O’Shea, 36, will link up with his team-mates next week after representing Ireland in their World Cup qualifying campaign at the start of June.
