Manager's update:
Grayson on Maja, Grabban and Steele

MAJA UPDATE

SG: “He came off on Saturday with a knee injury so we’ll have to see where we go with him in terms of how long he’ll be out for. Look, it’s nothing major or anything like that and hopefully it’ll be a couple of days. But he was missing tonight along with Jack Rodwell who has a thigh strain and Jeremain Lens who was injured on Saturday.”

GRABBAN THE ATTENTION

SG: “Lewis is still going to be a little bit short in terms of fitness because when you’re bringing in players nine days before the start of the season they’ve probably not played a great deal of football, but we will work with him. What’s he’s got is energy, work rate and experience, which we need in the group because we’re a young group, and he knows what it’s all about so he’ll be a very good addition to us. He played in the play-off final last year for Reading and has a winning mentality. He can play as a centre forward or a wide player so he gives us adaptability.”

STEELE’S RETURN TO THE NORTH EAST

SG: “We’ve been looking at the situation with the goalkeeping area for quite a bit and he has a wealth of experience. He’s played a lot of games in the Championship so he knows what it’s all about and what it’s like to be involved Saturday to Tuesday to Saturday. And he’s a local lad so he didn’t need too much convincing when he got the opportunity and we asked him to come!”
