Interview: Lescott delighted to join Black Cats

Joleon Lescott is excited about the next chapter in his career under the tutelage of a familiar face.

The 34-year-old worked with David Moyes during his Everton days and was initially brought to the club after impressing for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Lescott has joined Sunderland on a deal till the end of the season and is keen to share the wealth of experience he has.

With 26 international caps for England as well as a Premier League winner’s medal, Lescott has spoken about his excitement to move to the Stadium of Light and has paid homage to the knowledge of Moyes.

“I’m over the moon, I spoke to the manager last week and he said there was some interest,” he said. “I said yes and I’m obviously delighted to come and get it done now.

“Any player in any stage of their career wants to play in the Premier League and I’m no different.

“We spoke on Thursday and he asked me how I was. I had been training at Manchester City and he has a lot of friends there and they relayed some information to him and then I came up on Friday.”

He continued: “I did some work with the fitness coach and it was a go.

“He is a really experienced manager and you can see the position we are in isn’t great but if anyone is to get us out of it then I’m sure that’s going to be him.

“I’m excited because the Stadium of Light has always been an intense atmosphere. I haven’t had too many good results up here so hopefully that continues for the away teams when playing.”
