Team news: Duo expected to miss Forest

Chris Coleman’s options are severely depleted heading into Sunderland’s upcoming games against Nottingham Forest and Barnsley.

The Black Cats face two games in just three days as the festive period comes to a close, and their injury woes have shown no signs of letting up with Lewis Grabban and Ty Browning the latest casualties.

Grabban missed the Boxing Day defeat at Bramall Lane due to a calf injury and seems unlikely to feature in either game, with Browning expected to miss the trip to the City Ground.

And Coleman admits he will have to take both games into consideration when selecting a starting XI against Forest.

“We’ve lost Lewis Grabban – he’s still not fit – and Ty Browning has got a badly swollen foot,” said Coleman.

“Ty is extremely doubtful for the first game. He may be okay for the second one but we’ll have to wait and see, time will tell.”

He continued: “I think we have to [look at these games as a pair] in this situation.

“You always look at the next game and you concentrate on that, but we have two games in three days with nine or ten players in the medical room.

“We have to look at how we spread the players to get the best results we possible can because the second game comes around so quickly.”
