Manager's preview: Moyes on QPR

Sunderland manager David Moyes is planning on staying in the EFL Cup for as long as possible.

The Black Cats return to the capital on Wednesday evening to take on Queens Park Rangers, who currently sit 16th in the Championship table, at Loftus Road.

Like Sunderland, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side will be hoping to bounce back from defeat having lost out to league-leaders Huddersfield Town at the John Smiths’ Stadium.

But Moyes is hoping to heap a third successive defeat on the Hoops and seal a place in the fourth round.

“Our plan is to stay in the cup as long as we possibly can,” said Moyes. “I know the Everton game was the one which didn’t look right but I think we’ve seen a bit of improvement the whole way through.

“Resilience is something the team has had before and we must keep that but try to build on it.”

He continued: “We’re taking it one game at a time and we’re focussing on going to Queens Park Rangers and putting out a team which we feel can go there and get a result.

“I’d like us to be more positive in our play if we can and we’re trying to do that, but I have to give the players credit for a lot of things.

“We have to win – that’s what we have to do – and my job is to find a way of winning so whatever it takes I have to do that.”
