Roadrunner: Watmore hails fans

Duncan Watmore has declared Sunderland’s fans were vital in them earning a point against West Bromwich Albion last weekend.

The Black Cats began the game on the front foot but were pegged back on 35 minutes when Nacer Chadli raced clear of Lamine Kone before finding the bottom corner.

David Moyes’ side dusted themselves down and responded well after the midway interval as Watmore found Patrick van Aanholt well placed to draw Sunderland level.

Speaking to safc.com the winger admitted the red and white army roared Moyes’ side to a point and has urged the players to reward the fans with a win after the international break.

“I thought we did ok, we wanted to win the game but we take the point and we need to take that into our next game when we come back from the international break,” he said.

“The lads kept going but to be honest the fans kept us going and they earned us the point so we have to thank them. We want to give them points to cheer about so hopefully we can give them three next time instead of the one.

“Their goal was against the run of play but our fans lift us when you are struggling and that’s what we needed. We came out and we gave it a go and we got the point."

He continued: “We need to take the positives and go into the next game.”
