View from the opposition: Wenger on Sunderland

Arsene Wenger has paid tribute to his defensive ranks ahead of a ‘tricky’ game against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday (KO 12.30pm).

The Gunners are unbeaten on the road in the Premier League since February and they’re currently second in the table, with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City top on goal difference.

However, Wenger does have a number of fitness concerns ahead of the game with Nacho Monreal, Santi Cazorla and Theo Walcott set for late fitness tests.

“We have a good solidarity when we play away from home and we have a full desire to win the game, said the Frenchman. “We have also improved our defensive quality but it will be a tricky game tomorrow.

“David Moyes is an experienced manager who has 15 seasons in the Premier League. They’ll defend very well and catch us on moments in the breaks and on set pieces.”

He continued: “We have a few uncertainties on Walcott, Monreal and Cazorla – they will have tests today.

“We lost Perez for a while and he will be out for six to eight weeks.

“We have Giroud available and Aaron Ramsey will be back in the squad.”
