Jones: Credit to the staff

Billy Jones is enjoying the trials and tribulations of a testing start to pre-season training.

Immense planning from the coaching staff during the off-season ensured the Blacks Cats returned raring to go, and Jones has hailed the schedule produced by the backroom team.

Currently undertaking a gruelling ten-day training camp in Austria, the Sunderland players have been tested to their limits with three sessions per day ensuring peak fitness is the aim ahead of the opening day of the season.

“It’s been really good and really positive,” explained Jones. “We’re doing triple sessions which is what you expect at this time of the season and it’s everything we imagined it would be, but we had a really good off-season programme so we were well prepared for our return.

“If you were to plan your perfect pre-season it would be with the balls but hard work and that’s exactly how it’s been, with footballs out from the first day with runs in between so credit to the staff."

He added: “They’ve put a lot of thought into planning this pre-season and I think we will feel the benefits come the start of the campaign.”
