Weekend in Numbers: Day to forget for Black Cats

Sunderland endured a day to forget in South Wales as Swansea City clinched three points at the Liberty Stadium.

The win was Swansea’s second in three Premier League games after winning none of their first five under Bob Bradley, with the Swans taking their home tally to eight goals in their last two games.

Despite defeat Sunderland's form remains positive with the Black Cats' last five games yielding nine points.

Meanwhile, defeat condemned David Moyes to his first defeat in seven meetings against the Welsh side as Gylfi Sigurdsson took centre stage.

The Icelandic midfielder has been directly involved in eight goals in his last eight PL games – four goals and four assists – having a hand in 47% of Swansea’s goals in 2016 (14 goals, 7 assists).

In total Sigurdsson created six chances in the game and no Swansea player has ever created more in Premier League home game, with Fernando Llorente’s five goals all coming at the Liberty Stadium.

Sunderland will be hoping for a reversal of fortunes when they return to the Stadium of Light for home games against Chelsea and Watford.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Watford registered their first win over Everton in any competition since March 1987 as Stefano Okaka scored his first Premier League goal in 2,414 days.

Arsenal stretched their winning run at home against Stoke City to 15 games as Theo Walcott netted his seventh Premier League goal of the season – only Jermain Defoe has more (8).

Benik Afobe ended his goal drought at 540 minutes but it wasn’t enough for Bournemouth who slipped to a 3-2 defeat at Burnley, who have scored as many home PL goals this season as they did in the duration of the 2014-15 campaign.

Crystal Palace once again produced goals galore during a 3-3 draw with Hull City meaning there have now been 36 goals in their last seven top-flight games – an average of 5.1 per match.

And there was also cause for celebration at the King Power Stadium as Leicester City returned to form, with Jamie Vardy scoring his first PL hat-trick in a 4-2 win over Manchester City.
