Armed Forces & Veterans: Breakfast Club to start at SoL

Sunderland AFC is proud to announce the start of the Club’s Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club (AFVBC) event, beginning on Wednesday 9 November at 9am.

The event – which will bring together Armed Forces veterans from around the region as it often does around the country – will take place in Black Cats Bar at the Stadium of Light as we approach Remembrance Day, and will be the first Breakfast Club to amalgamate with a football club in the UK.

The Breakfast Club will continue every second Wednesday of each month, and we encourage veterans to get involved and meet face-to-face in a relaxed, sociable environment. Sign-up is free, with only breakfast chargeable.

The organisation has in total over 420 clubs across 14 countries, with approximately 150,000 members worldwide – click here for more information and to sign up to the event!

SAFC is also proud to highlight the great work having been carried out by a selection of Armed Forces veterans in the Club’s matchday safety team so far this season.

Currently 25 veterans have been recruited for safety operations so far, selected for their reliability, knowledge and understanding, alongside their expertise in high-pressure situations.

Helping to foster inclusion for the veterans, the Club are also benefitting as we and other organisations around the area strengthen close relationships with our Armed Forces.

Dereck Hardman, founder of the AFVBC, will be attending tomorrow’s match with Cardiff City at the SoL as a guest of the board as the Club reinforces its community bond with our country’s veterans, on our annual Remembrance fixture.
