Hall of Fame:
Class of 2020 inducted

Sunderland heroes past and present united at the Stadium of Light as the Black Cats inducted the class of 2020 into the Hall of Fame.

Another eight legends were honoured as Jeff Brown hosted the second annual event.

Record post-war goal-scorer and the only Englishman to win the European Golden Kevin Phillips joined fellow striker Gary Rowell to be inducted.

Everyone’s favourite captain, Kevin Ball joined the line-up, alongside Dave Watson, the man of the match in the 1973 FA Cup as well as his team mate the late Billy Hughes.

Jill Scott becomes the first-ever female inductee and goalkeeper on the famous Hemy painting in the Stadium of Light foyer, Ted Doig was also named in the class of 2020.

Kevin Ball, spoke of his pride at becoming part of the select group to enter the club’s hall of fame.

“I think every player that is lucky enough to be inducted into the hall of fame, they’ve earned that honour.

“When you actually see all the other legends, or their relatives and families, and when you come down and see your picture it all hits home and becomes quite humbling.”

Club historian Rob Mason is delighted with how the Hall of Fame continues to develop – and has promised more is to come in the future.

“I’m thrilled to bits,” he said.

“Most clubs of stature have had a hall of fame for some considerable times, and I’m delighted that after I’d been trying to get a hall of fame off the ground for some time that we got it going last year.

“It has been a tremendous success. I knew it would go down well, but I have to say that it has totally surpassed my greatest expectations.”
