With 46 international supporter branches, the demand for the club's online streaming service of all games has never been greater.
While some supporters from the north east have immigrated abroad, others have fallen in love with the club for completely different reasons and dream of the day when they will be able to visit the Stadium of Light for the first time.
On Saturday, American fan Sam Agee lived that dream.
