EFL: Mind on board for Saturday's game

Sunderland AFC’s Sky Bet League One clash against Coventry City on Saturday will be dedicated to the EFL’s official charity partner, Mind.

The EFL and Mind have joined forces throughout the 2018-19 season for the ‘On Your Side’ campaign, and they hope that by raising the visibility of mental health problems in football, they can be game changers.

Together with Mind and the EFL, SAFC are using the power of football to raise awareness of mental health, to improve the approach to mental health in football and to raise funds to deliver life-changing support.

Washington Mind will be at the Stadium of Light on Saturday to raise awareness of mental health, and to raise funds to support their vital work.

Mind was chosen to become the EFL’s official charity partner from the start of the 2018/19 season for two years. The partnership focusses on the following areas:

  • Raising awareness about mental health with fans, clubs and staff
  • Raising funds to deliver life-changing support
  • Help improve the approach to mental health in football working with other partners in the game

With over 18 million fans attending EFL matches each season, and almost 42 million watching on TV, the EFL and Mind hope that the increased visibility of mental health at matches will promote awareness and understanding among new audiences.

SAFC selected this match as their designated Mind fixture, as it builds on Foundation of Light’s newly-launched ‘Give a Quid campaign’, which aims to raise £30,000 to support the Foundation's work across the region to improve people's mental health through its award-winning programmes in sport, health, education and employability.
