Julio Arca's Wearside memories

Have you got a favourite Julio moment? Let us know via Twitter, @SunderlandAFC!

On Friday, at the age of 37, Julio Arca called time on his playing career – 20 years after making his senior debut for Argentinos Juniors.

When Arca arrived on Wearside in 2000, it would be a fair assumption to say that few, if any one, knew much about the left-sided player.

However, that soon changed. Arca got off to a flying start in red and white and marked his debut with a goal in a 1-1 draw at home to West Ham United.

Arca quickly became a fan favourite at the Stadium of Light and was voted Young Player of the Year by the fans at the end of his maiden season in England (2000-2001).

Able to play anywhere down the left side, Arca struck memorable goals at Bradford City and Middlesbrough as he racked up 17 goals in 157 appearances for the club.

Arca then moved to Teesside in 2006 before later returning to the north east where saw out the remainder of his career with South Shields.
