Preview: Under-21s return to Premier League 2 action

Sunderland Under-21s return to league action on Monday night with a trip to Manchester City in the Premier League 2 (7pm).

Opposition

Manchester City currently sit 25th in the Premier League 2. One place above bottom side, Newcastle. 

City have won 2 games, drawn 5 and lost eight from 15 with 11 points currently.

Their last victory came in their most recent fixture against Nottingham Forest with Nico O'Reilly grabbing a brace.

Brian Barry-Murphy is the current lead coach of the U21s.

Murphy made over 400 senior career appearances for the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Bury and Rochdale.

The former Republic of Ireland international started his managerial career with Rochdale in 2019, departing in the summer of 2021.

Right winger, Justin Oboavwodou, leads the goalscoring charts for his side with three in 10 this season.

Premier League 2

The Black Cats currently sit 10th in the PL2. A win could see Graeme Murty's side jump up to 7th. 

Tottenham Hotspur are the current league leaders with just one defeat all season.

West Ham United, Arsenal and Fulham make up the rest of the top four.

Newcastle, Manchester City and Leeds sit in the bottom three.
