Premier League Cup: U21s set to take on Bristol City

Sunderland AFC Under-21s are back in Premier League Cup action on Monday taking on Bristol City. The penultimate group E fixture is set to be played at Eppleton CW (7pm).

The Premier League Cup

The Black Cats sit third in Group E alongside leaders Tottenham, bottom of the group Peterborough and second placed Bristol City.

Graeme Murty’s side were narrowly beaten 3-2 in the cup opener against Spurs before beating Peterborough at the start of October.

A free kick from Ellis Taylor and a last-minute winner from Henry Fieldson sealed victory at Eppleton CW.

Taylor then grabbed the only goal of the game in the away fixture at Bristol slotting away a coolly taken penalty.

In the previous group E fixture, Spurs were once again victors continuing their unbeaten run with a 2-1 win.

Harry Gardiner grabbed a consolation goal following two first-half strikes from Jude Soonsup-Bell and Rio Kyerematen.

Both Sunderland and Bristol City sit on six points but the Lads have a game in hand on the Robins heading into the final stages of the group stages.

All sides will face each other home and away within their group and the top two teams advance to the knockout stages.

Opposition

Bristol City currently play in the Professional Development League which is one step below the Premier League 2.

The Robins currently have two wins from five in the cup competition after consecutive victories against Peterborough.

Alex Ball is currently Head of Coaching within the Bristol Academy having previously held a coaching role at Southampton.

The 42-year-old made one appearance for Bristol City in the 1999-2000 season before going on to play for Clevedon Town and Team Bath.
