Report: King's Lynn Town 4-4 SAFC U21

An eight-goal thriller saw Sunderland Under-21s draw with Kings Lynn Town on the road for their third pre-season friendly.

The hosts took a 2-1 lead into half-time, with Ben Middlemas grabbing a goal back on the stroke of half-time.

The goals were flying in in the second half, with Trialist A, Trialist B and Harry Gardiner all in among the goals.

Josh Barrett opened the scoring for King’s Lynn five minutes in with a deft chip over the Sunderland goalkeeper.

10 minutes later, Sion Spence doubled the home side’s lead, drilling a shot into the bottom corner.

The young Lads scored in stoppage time of the first half, with Oliver Bainbridge’s cross finding the head of Middlemas, who glanced it into the far corner.

King’s Lynn scored their third of the match 10 minutes into the second half, with J ack Smith finishing at the near post.

Sunderland’s second of the match came from great play from Trialist B down the left wing to beat his marker and loft a deft cross into the box for Trialist A to head home.

The hosts regained their two-goal lead five minutes later through Ismael Fatadjo.

Graeme Murty’s side began to mount their comeback 71 minutes in with a short corner routine eventually finding the feet of Trialist B, who managed to keep a hold of the ball in the box, creating a yard of space and smashing a reverse effort into the bottom corner.

The Lads found the equaliser with four minutes to go as Trialist B floated a pass to the other side of the box for Gardiner, who took it down on his chest, chopped onto his left foot and lashed his shot across the ‘keeper and into the far corner.

Attentions turned to the fourth pre-season encounter for the Under-21s as the Lads faced Ipswich Town Under-21s on July 25.
