U21 Preview:
PL2 returns against Boro

SAFC Under-21s return to Premier League 2 action for the first time since November on Monday night, with an eagerly anticipated showdown against Middlesbrough at Eppleton (KO 7pm).

The young Lads are seeking an immediate response from Thursday’s defeat by Wolverhampton Wanderers, which brought to an end the club’s Premier League Cup campaign for 2022-23.

Graeme Murty and John Hewitson’s side currently sit ninth in the PL2 Division 2 table, six points and two places behind a Boro outfit who whilst losing their last three league games, boast a promising set of youngsters. The reverse fixture at Bishop Auckland back in September resulted in a 2-0 Middlesbrough win.

The involvement of several teenage Academy starlets in Saturday’s first-team matchday squad at Shrewsbury Town, combined with the postponement of our U18 fixture with Leeds United due to player and staff shortages, mean it remains to be seen which players will be available to select from.

A number of younger players, including Oli Bainbridge, Ethan Moore and Daniel Cameron were all named in the matchday squad against Wolves on Thursday and could again receive the call. Ethan Kachosa is set to serve a one-match suspension following his late dismissal in the week, whilst Max Thompson and Zak Johnson are at the late rehabilitation stage from their respective injuries.

Tickets for our return to PL2 against Middlesbrough are available by clicking on the ticketing tab on safc.com. Those buying tickets must have a previous SAFC purchase history, and can secure up to four tickets. Supporters are advised that there will be no sales on the gate, and admissions will only be through advance purchased tickets or SAFC Season Cards/Eppleton Season Cards.

Live streaming of the match alongside social media coverage will both be available via our dedicated Academy Twitter page, @AcademyOfLight. both
