U23 Preview: Young Lads' final home game with Birmingham

Sunderland Under-23s contest their final home league match of the season on Monday night, as Birmingham City visit Eppleton (KO 7pm).

The penultimate Premier League 2 game in all for the young Lads, they will look to make a long-awaited return to winning ways in their final match on Wearside before Sunday’s season finale down at Southampton.

A similar side is expected to feature as last week’s match at Eppleton against Aston Villa, which despite a 3-1 defeat to a more experienced outfit, the Lads did perform well in stages and create chances, also scoring a fantastic opener through Harrison Sohna.

Sohna is likely to retain his place along with fellow regulars Tom Scott, Ethan Kachosa and Cameron Jessup, with a number of Under-18 scholars likely to play some part in the matchday squad, and whilst Jacob Carney has put in a number of sterling performances in recent weeks, Lee Burge could make a long-awaited return to match action following his previous heart issue.

Several trialists could also be involved as preparations for next season get underway, against a Birmingham side sat in 11th, two places and five points ahead of Sunderland in the PL2 Division 2 table.

The Blues have endured a mixed bag of form in recent games, beaten by league winners Fulham in their last outing but before that securing a 2-1 home win over Norwich City.

The reverse fixture down in the West Midlands between the two sides finished in a narrow 1-0 defeat for the Black Cats, Leonardo Dos Reis with the decisive goal back in September.

Tickets are available at a cost of £3 for adults and £1 for concessions, but supporters are reminded card payments only are accepted on the gate. Coverage of the contest will be provided on the official Twitter account, @SunderlandAFC.
